Music is a truly whimsical concept in this world. It is so magical that you can’t touch, see, or taste it, but you can feel it, running through your nerves and touching your deepest emotions.

If I read it slowly, now it sounds like a religion. But, okay, let’s put it aside.

The Frequency Impacts You

The music you choose to listen to can impact your behavior and perspective. The specific frequencies and vibrations in music are crafted in a manner that can shape how we convey ourselves, our levels of energy, emotions, and overall moods. The frequencies we expose ourselves to align directly with the vibrational energy centers of our body.

For example, while I write this, I listen to Lover Boy by Phum Vipurit. The dynamic guitar strumming and the groovy drum rhythm make me want to dance and smile as if I were the lover boy in this song. It gives me the energy to have this certain feeling: “Love what you do right now and its process.”.

At different moments, I use music to achieve various goals, such as maintaining focus on tasks, reducing boredom, and finding inspiration. Everywhere, on any occasion, I would let myself drown in music, listening to whatever is on the queue since the current music streaming platform can read our listening behavior.

Music is the Genre

If someone asks me what genre I listen to, I would say, "Music.” I won’t confine myself to a certain type of genre and belittle the others. Being genre-phobic is not even on my list. As long as it is pleasant to my ears and evokes specific emotions in me, I will down for it.

Moreover, the line between music genres now starts to blur. Nowadays, artists and musicians have become more creative, compiling all their ideas and references into one distinctive approach and not limiting themselves to only making certain genres of music.

Music is just like people. There is always something new that we will learn or get from every meeting. In every genre we listen to, we will learn or feel something new, whether it is from the lyrics, melody, chords, or maybe the context behind it.

Gatekeeping ourselves to certain artists or genres is just like closing ourselves off from other people. We choose to have fun with our minds and tastes, then grow up with the idea that “I’m better than others.”

Like, could you imagine you haven’t listened to Dangdut Pantura? The lyric is so down-to-earth and easy to digest. The music? It gives you the greatest energy, as if you could move this world with only one hand.

Digest More, Listen More

The more we listen, the more we take. Various exposures are needed to make us feel human. We feel sad, happy, furious, or anxious. And all of those feelings can be amplified when we listen to music.

You may curl up in bed, listen to Backburner by Niki, and cry all your tears out. Or, dance in your room like no one is watching you while listening to Perfect Night by Le Sserafim. It could be that you hate your life and portray all of it as crumbling down, then listen to In the End by Linkin Park and scream all your lungs out.

We should feel many feelings in our lives. Could you imagine listening to sad songs 24/7? With all due respect, you better seek help.

Whatever it is, we should celebrate it. Let’s celebrate the magic of music. Just listen to anything; don’t get yourself attached to one type of genre or artist. Ask for music recommendations, make a playlist for someone, or post a story about a song that you currently listen to.

That is music for me. Then, what music is for you?
